Poshmark. Some people love it and others hate it. Women are making 6-figures a year selling on Posh and others aren’t even able to make 1 sale. Just like anything else, there are positives and negatives to selling on the app platform. While I found I am more successful selling items over there, I know plenty of people who deleted their accounts and are focusing on other avenues like eBay. Personally, I like to diversify where my listings are to give them a greater chance of selling. Like anything, it is crucial to build your brand and reputation in order to snowball more sales into actual income. I’ve encountered my fair share of shitty people on Poshmark but I’ve also worked in several industries where customer service is the magic key so it’s pretty hard to shock me anymore.
As with any sites where you are buying and selling items – there are a few things you should focus on. I’ll give you my top 3 and then go into more detail on a later post.
- Take bright, light photos and show ALL flaws. If you can’t or don’t want to fix the item prior to selling, you must make those issues known for the buyer. This prevents confusion and misunderstandings from the very beginning.
- Make your items look nice – I know they are pre-owned clothes but do you think someone wants to buy your sweater with the deodorant still in the armpits? Hell No! You can also command a premium for your items if they look great! I think my items probably sell for more because I take more time to list them and adequately describe them.
- Take time to package and ship the item correctly and in a timely manner. Close your eyes for a moment. Imagine you ordered this gorgeous blouse online that you’ve been dying to get but refused to pay full price. You got an amazing deal and the seller was so nice and responsive. Lucky for your the seller ships it quick and you have it in your mailbox in 3 days. You go to open the USPS bag and it is shoved into a bag smaller than it should (to save on shipping of course) and has a million wrinkles so when you take it out it looks like it was picked out of a bin at the Goodwill. YOU wouldn’t want to be disappointed like that, so why do it to other people?
